Mary Beth Perez Castaño

Mary Beth Perez Castaño is a first-generation Mexican-American cellist who currently works as a music educator and freelance musician. She is based in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in Music Performance. During her studies, she distinguished herself as the cello section leader in the symphonic orchestra, piano and string quartets, and solo recitals, allowing her to perform in venues such as the National Opera Center, Lincoln Center, United Palace and Whitman Hall. She had the honor to perform at Brooklyn College with her professors Sibylle Johner, Jesse Mills and Rieko Aizawa, both members of the Horszowski Trio. As an orchestra member, she had the privilege to play alongside the New York Philharmonic musicians, La Sinfónica Nacional Infantil de Venezuela, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, National Take A Stand Festival and participated in Mostly Mozart In Harmony as a teaching artist. 

Mary Beth is an UpBeat alum who imparts her love for music to students of all ages, teaching them how to play the cello, read music, and understand basic music theory.
