South Bronx Unite is a grassroots, resident-led organization dedicated to environmental justice, public health, equitable development, and community empowerment in Mott Haven and Port Morris. Its work has helped bring neighbors together to advocate for cleaner air, more green and public space, responsible development, and greater community control over decisions affecting the South Bronx. UpBeat NYC has partnered with South Bronx Unite for many years, bringing young musicians and live music to community gatherings and supporting a shared belief that arts, culture, advocacy, and neighborhood connection are all essential to a thriving community. The linked short film Asthma Alley offers a personal window into issues at the heart of this partnership, following young UpBeat musician Cynthia Raules and connecting her experience with asthma, her musical development, and the broader environmental challenges facing children and families in the South Bronx.
