El Sistema: From Venezuela to the South Bronx

Please join us for a very special event celebrating the miraculous Venezuelan music education program "El Sistema" and the work it is inspiring here in the South Bronx. The evening will feature the UpBeat NYC Children's Orchestra and a screening of the acclaimed documentary "Tocar y Luchar."
Alberto Arvelo's "Tocar y Luchar" (To Play and To Fight) presents the captivating story of the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra System. Known as "El Sistema," this network of hundreds of orchestras formed within towns and villages across Venezuela has become one of the most important and beautiful social phenomena in modern history.
The evening will begin with a performance by the UpBeat NYC Children's Orchestra, an ensemble based in Mott Haven whose mission is inspired by Venezuela's El Sistema.
A reception will follow the performance and film. Admission is free. Ticket information TBA.
